One Mindset Shift to Grow Your Business with Social Media

Social Media is not a billboard, it’s the modern version of door to door selling.

Do you struggle with low engagement numbers? Confused as to why you don’t get likes on your posts? Wondering why your account doesn’t get followers while others’ do? These are all thoughts that everyone has experienced.

Luckily, there’s an answer to all of these questions, and the answer is simple:

Community

People these days want to feel as if something was made just for them. They also want to know they are seen, valued, and heard. I had a friend mention this very point to me (thanks Jordan Nations) and he shared a really good point:

“Everyone wants to consume something they feel is designed for them. I am a mid-20’s guy from Florida who has his pilots license. If there was a podcast specifically for mid-20 male pilots from Florida, I would TOTALLY listen to that.”

People want to feel connected to you. To your brand. Your mission. Your dreams. They want to feel as if they are your friend. With this in mind, the biggest way to grow your business/brand through online marketing is not by focusing on the sell, but by focusing on building up a community.

How to Build a Community Online

1. Post consistently

Whether this is once a month, once a week, or somewhere in between, people want to hear from you. They want to make you a part of their daily rhythm. By creating consistency on your end, you provide them a structure they can add into their busy lives and schedules.

2. INTERACT

This is by far the most important point. You can’t get anywhere with simply posting your content. It’s nice if you have nice pictures on your Instagram, but if you don’t actively go OUT and find people to see it, they wont.

Not to mention one of the most important analytics for social media platforms is this idea of “engagement.” How much are people engaging with your content? Or a better question, how much are they engaging with YOU?

Each time someone sees you commenting back, liking posts, or dropping a direct message, that is an important engagement point for your analytics that will boost your account.

More importantly, each time someone posts something, they also want it to exist in the world too. Go find your ideal client and do for them what you would want done for you. Comment on their posts. Share it. Give it some love.

Go find your ideal client and do for them what you would want done for you.

There is no such thing as “Love Currency.” It costs you nothing to comment and like someones post. So don’t be stingy. If you are genuinely looking to grow your brand/business through social media, don’t sit around waiting for people to come to you. Go out to them and make the first move.

3. Give away everything

Seriously. All of your secrets. How to do your job. Your tips and tricks. Just give it all away. For free.

“But, if I share everything, wont they just go out and do it themselves?”

Maybe. They really just might! However, the allure of DIY is fading. People don’t actually want to do things themselves. They really just want to be able to trust who they’re spending their money on. And that’s why giving away your info is a PRO STRATEGY. When people see you being transparent, they realize they can trust you, and so they hire you for your services, it’s a win-win scenario. Badda boom.

People care more about the value you give them than the product you can sell them

Overall, social media’s current trend is so selfish. Everyone posts so that people see pictures about THEM. They like seeing how many comments and likes THEY get. Everyone wants to be seen. Don’t be like them. Instead of trying of TAKING attention from people, aim to GIVE value to others. If you do this and make it a central part to your social media strategy, I can assure you will see crazy results within as little as two months.

I hope this has helped you! If it has, be sure to drop a comment and leave some “claps” here. Share with a friend and let me know any other questions you might have regarding this topic! Thanks again!
